Students from all over Europe explore the field of mediation (1)

On 9th of July Turiba University in partnership with five partner universities launched the Erasmus + Intensive course "Negotiations and Mediation. Cross-border dispute resolution exercises using online tools ", which will take place over two weeks.

40 students from the universities of Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Italy, Austria and Czech Republic participate in the course of mediation. Students in the course acquire skills in managing the mediation process, develop intercultural communication skills and get acquainted with modern online tools and solutions in the field of mediation.

Mediation is an out-of-court way of resolving disputes. Mediation can take place both in civil cases (for example, in family, work or commercial disputes, etc.), both in criminal cases (when the perpetrator makes an agreement with the victim) and in administrative matters. Mediation is becoming more and more popular in Latvia and in the world. Both courts recommend to the parties to go to the mediator in order to resolve their dispute peacefully, as well as the disputants themselves before the court try to resolve the situation with the help of a mediator.

During the intensive course of mediation project partners test the new mediation platform that will be available in the spring of 2019 for international mock for students who study mediation in different universities around the world. As evidenced by the current trends in dispute resolution, more and more disputes are  solved by discussing issues online by parties and the mediator. Therefore, the mediation platform created under the international project managed by the School of Business Administration Turiba on the Internet enables students to train with this method of resolving disputes. Therefore the mediation platform, created under the international project managed by Turiba University, on the internet gives the chance to students to train to resolve disputes with this method.

This course is part of the Erasmus + project launched in 2016 by the Turiba University  in partnership with five partner universities - the University of Genoa (Italy), the Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), the National and World Economy University (Bulgaria), the University of Graz (Austria) and the Prague Economics University (Czech Republic). The project will develop a mediation platform that will serve as a resource for lecturers and students to better educate and learn various mediation issues. In addition to the project, both lecturers' training and an intensive course for students will be conducted, in which the newly created platform will be tested. In the project will be developed a methodology, a handbook for good practice and video teaching materials.

The project is realized with the support by the Strategic Partnership with the European Union Lifelong Learning Program Erasmus Plus. Project Number: 2016-1-LV01-KA203-022660.
