Turiba joined the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (0)
From October 2014 Turiba University has joined the organisation „The University Network of the European Capitals of Culture”, which in total unites 45 universities across the whole Europe.
The organization is established with the aim to promote new cooperation forms in the academic and educational field. In addition to it, the organisation underlines the importance of higher education institutions in providing status of every capital of culture. The University Network of the European Capitals if Culture promotes cooperation among universities to develop and transform regional politics and to create new activities in the city's and university's cooperation.
Director of Language Department of Turiba University Dr. Paed. asoc. prof. Mg. philol. Ineta Lūka tells that „there is cooperation with the University Network of European Capitals of Culture from 2012, when Turiba actively began to participate in the conferences arranged by the organization. On February 2014 Turiba had the honour to organize meeting of the organization board in Riga, during which the Capital of Culture was presented, and exchange of mutual contacts was promoted and projects of ERASMUS+ were discussed. The meeting of the board was organized very successfully, about which we have received acknowledgement of the organization president professor Flora Carrijn, and the University decided to become a certified member of the organization.”
Participation in the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture means not only participation in conferences and exchange of information among universities. It facilitates also cooperation among cities and regions.
„A great benefit for students of Turiba University will be an opportunity to participate in projects, summer universities arranged by the organization, as well as places of practices. Already now the University has concluded cooperation with the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu City in Romania, as a result students of Faculty of International Tourism of Turiba University will have an opportunity to go to the ERASMUS+ exchange program,” tells I.Lūka.
The Network of the European Capitals of Culture is cultural and educational organization, which opens additional opportunities for students to influence and shape European culture. Particularly exciting it would be for students of Faculty of International Tourism and Faculty of Communication. By following the information in the organization webpage www.uneess.org and writing a motivation letter, it is possible to participate in any of the international events for students, as well as to enrich own knowledge from experience and learning process from universities of other countries.
