CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

It is important for Turība University to constantly develop, fulfilling not only the function of educating students and society but also contributing to ensuring the future of society, helping to find solutions to various global problems, and becoming a responsible part of the industry and society.

Therefore, Turība implements the principles of corporate responsibility in its operations to promote sustainability, ethics, and a positive impact on society, the environment, and the quality of education.

These principles are included in Turība’s development strategy, which also defines the university’s mission – to implement a successful business based on the principles of sustainable development and to teach this to others, thus strengthening the idea of socially responsible entrepreneurship in Latvia and increasing public knowledge and understanding of sustainable development, responsible environmental behavior, and its impact on the economy and society in the future.

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY PRACTICES

According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Global Goals, Turība University primarily sets eight goals in its operations and implements various activities to achieve them.

  • We offer study programs in the healthcare sector, with a focus on healthy nutrition, active lifestyle, and physical and emotional well-being.

  • We offer students the opportunity to engage in sports by playing in the university's men’s and women’s basketball teams or the cricket team, and we also offer an outdoor exercise area.

  • We promote water consumption in daily life by ensuring the availability of drinking water in the university’s public spaces, where everyone can refill their water bottles/cups for free.

  • We provide education that is in demand in the labor market and internationally recognized: we are the largest business university in the Baltic and one of the top 3 most recommended universities by employers; we ensure practical approach to the study process. (Emphasis is on professional knowledge: 60% practice, 40% theory. Students acquire practical knowledge, reinforcing theoretical learning with internship every study year, and a practical orientation for lecture material. As part of the curriculum, various industry experts give guest lectures, and there are field visits and trips to companies and organizations in Latvia and abroad.)
  • We implement sustainability principles in study programs that help prepare students for solving future sustainability challenges.
  • We build collaborations with the industry in study fields to ensure the creation of relevant study content, focused on individual development, university growth, and national advancement.
  • We provide an individual approach. The student and the lecturer are equal partners in the study process; the lecturer, as a professional in their field, is a mentor and support for the student.
  • We ensure wide internship opportunities. Turība has an extensive network of partner companies. Internships are organized every year, allowing students to test in practice whether the chosen profession suits them.
  • We provide modern teaching methods in the study process, diverse digital learning materials that allow students to fully gain knowledge regardless of their chosen study form or location, and we offer different study formats that allow students to conveniently combine their studies with private and work life.
  • We ensure an international environment. Turība has students from more than 40 countries around the world. Students have access to extensive international exchange programs in more than 120 countries worldwide.
  • We offer support in career development. Students can receive support from Turība's Career Center and Business Incubator, as well as consultations from professionals and mentors in various industries on implementing business ideas.
  • We ensure academic integrity and ethics: we maintain high academic and research ethics, preventing plagiarism and intellectual property violations, and ensure transparency in the academic process by involving students and staff in decision-making.
  • We use environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technologies: by installing solar panels that allow the generation of about 20% of the university’s electricity needs in one season, and we use energy-efficient LED technologies and motion sensors for lighting.
  • We update environmental sustainability topics: we organize scientific and practical conferences on climate and environmental sustainability issues; we focus students' scientific research on sustainability in the fields of climate and environment; we implement international projects to promote sustainability.
  • We are the largest private university in the Baltic States, a responsible taxpayer, and an accountable employer, providing social guarantees for our employees.
  • We develop educational programs that provide skills and knowledge in demand in the labor market and are useful for developing the country's economic growth and the well-being of its population.
  • We conduct applied and scientific research, offering solutions to various problems faced by companies, organizations, and public administration. The largest study is the Turība Business Index, which evaluates the business environment in Latvia.
  • We attract international students who can complement the Latvian labor market with their qualifications.
  • We create an understanding and knowledge of entrepreneurship for high school students and motivate them to start their own businesses, which are the foundation of the country's well-being. We implement major projects such as the Business School, Lawyers’ Excellence School, international summer schools, and a sustainable business idea hackathon.

  • We offer support to the local community by involving students and staff in volunteer and public benefit-promoting activities. Volunteer work and support are provided to animal shelters, the Children's Clinical University Hospital, and children's social care centers.
  • We promote economic growth in the regions by operating university branches in Talsi, Liepāja, and Cēsis.
  • We encourage student responsibility by offering educational opportunities that help them understand their role in society and motivate them to actively participate in solving public issues. We support student social activity by recognizing it and offering various tuition fee discounts.
  • We develop scientific activity and ensure research responsibility: we create scientific publications, organize the annual scientific conference where everyone has the opportunity to defend their research; we conduct scientific research in various fields within the study process that address current societal challenges.
  • We create new innovations and patent the university's Faculty of IT-related scientific inventions.
  • We build partnerships with companies to promote innovation and research in specific industries, as well as implement innovations in the content of study programs according to the current labor market demands and forecasts.
  • We provide classrooms for practical knowledge acquisition – the Communication creative space DigiCom, the Logistics Management creative space Login, the Security Laboratory, the StartUp Agency and StartUp Hotel, the Courtroom, the ICT laboratory, the Business Incubator, the Therapeutic massage training salon, and more.
